An open public meeting on 23rd July at the St Martin's Community Hall 6.30pm

Fri 18 Jul 2025

The area of Fort Field from Morley Chapel to the top of Le Val Des Terres falls within the St Peter Port parish boundary. The land itself is owned and managed by ACLMs on behalf of the States of Guernsey. Some years ago part of it was sown with wildflower seeds in an attempt to support wildlife and create an interesting feature. At the beginning of 2025 The Pollinator Project had discussions with the SoG with a view to the charity becoming more involved in its management.

The Pollinator Project are holding a public consultation on the options for Fort Field. A management plan has been discussed, but before any future plans are agreed the Pollinator Project wants to gather views from neighbours, passers-by, dog-walkers, as well as experts, stakeholders and any other interested parties.

Following the public meeting a revised plan will be presented to SoG and they will agree what role, if any, volunteers from the Pollinator Project undertake. It is also likely that they will look for commercial sponsorship to fund a 3 year programme of maintenance. The organisation also hope to be able to demonstrate that additional management of this area has led to an improvement in its biodiversity.

There has been a lot of opinions on the management of Fort Field over the last few years and everyone is invited to come along and have their views heard.
